Sixteen years ago, I was stricken with a disabling illness from which I have yet to recover.Prior to May 16th, 2005, I had been a healthy person so when I awoke with severe neurological and physiological symptoms that didn’t go away, I consulted with my general practitioner, Dr. O’Nurture. When I told Dr. O. that I was struggling to sit up or stand, my vision and perception were distorted, and my throat burned, she suggested I take vitamins and find a young boyfriend to play tennis with. “It’s worked for me” she said, “and I’ve dropped 10 pounds!” Two months later and no better, I returned to Dr. O’Nurture, who begrudgingly referred me to a neurologist and a psychiatrist for further testing.
