Quotes from an Article by Anthony Komaroff, M.D., 1997

There was an important development last fall in the area of general physician education in the U.S. about Myalgic Encephalomyelitis/Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (ME/CFS). The Journal of the American Medical Associ­ation (JAMA) read by a large number of American physicians published an important article by Dr. Anthony Komaroff in its October 8,1997 issue. The article is titled: "A 56-Year Old Woman With Chronic Fatigue Syndrome."

The importance of the article is not in describing any breakthroughs or new information about ME/CFS, but in its effect in providing a good deal of positive edu­cational information to the many, many physicians who remain largely uneducated about the illness or who are still influenced by the false viewpoint that ME/CFS is a depressive or psychiatric illness.
