"What Every Provider Should Know About ME/CFS (and how their patients can help them learn)"

In a combination presentation and interview, Dr. Selinger will talk about how he teaches medical students about ME/CFS, and present the key facts he would like all providers to know. He will also address the challenges of patients face if their providers are not well-informed about ME/CFS. This program is also relevant to other conditions with symptoms similar to ME/CFS.

Dr. Selinger writes:
I have enjoyed the practice of Family Medicine for 37 years. I graduated from Bowdoin College, University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine and Thomas Jefferson Family Medicine Residency. Beginning in 1986 I completed my residency training and moved to Bristol, CT. where I joined a colleague in practice for the next 35 years. Providing the “full circle” of family medicine (inpatient, outpatient, home visits and nursing home care) allows me to be present with my patients where ever their healthcare needs take us.
Teaching medical students has always been part of my clinical career and remains so in my role as Assoc. Professor and clinical skills instructor and Chair of the Dept. of Family Medicine at the Frank H. Netter School of Medicine at Quinnipiac University. Through the generosity of a benefactor who has lived with ME/CFS for much of her adult life we now have established curriculum in ME/CFS in all four years at the Netter SOM. I am now Faculty at the Eastern Connecticut Health Network (ECHN) Family Medicine Residency in Manchester, CT. and faculty advisor to the Family Medicine Interest Groups at Netter and the Yale School of Medicine. I make sure all residents are educated about ME/CFS prior to their graduation.
I am also the Chair of the Quality Council of the Office of Health Strategy (OHS) of CT. and an ex-officio member of the Board of Directors of the Connecticut Academy of Family Medicine (CAFP).
